The Dreamtime story of generations of Ngaro, Giya and Juru spoke of Gublamunda, who swam these ancient waters, laying 74 eggs.
This was the formation of the stunning 74 islands we know today as the Whitsundays.
And while the islands and the island chain have many names, from Whyribba to the Cumberlands, one thing is certain: these continental islands, once part of mainland Australia, once part of the mega Gondwanaland, never cease to inspire stories.
