The term bareboating means hiring a boat without a crew. You become the skipper. But don’t worry, we teach you everything you need to know to confidently set sail (or motor) around the glorious Whitsunday Islands.

So helpful with every aspect of booking from helping you feel confident enough to navigate the beautiful waters of the Whitsundays, how to provision your boat and where to go! We all had the best time and the kids keep asking when we are going back! Just booked again for next year! John runs a tight ship and Mike was great at helping us set the sails!

Portland Roads briefing and support, provided the confidence our group of inexperienced sailors required to confidently navigate the yacht around the islands. The pre departure tips and local knowledge provided by John and the Portland Roads crew meant that every island and mooring port that we visited had safe and spectacular snorkelling, swimming, and overnight anchorage.

YOU DO NOT NEED TO HAVE PRIOR BOATING EXPERIENCE TO SELF SKIPPER.

So how does bareboating work?

We provide a world class boat, you choose to become the skipper, you select your crew (family / friends), and you provision the vessel for the charter holiday and experience of a lifetime – In doing so you charter the boat under a Bare-Boat hire agreement and take our yachts out sailing yourself. An inspiring experience. Our Skipper Yourself Bare-Boating option, is our most popular.

Bare-boating is perfect for the experienced sailor or repeat customers to the amazing Whitsundays.
A full briefing is provided (and included in you charter pricing) to ensure you are at a competent level before departure.
Additional training can be given if you are a bit rusty…

The briefing is so thorough that even novices can give this a go – Your briefing includes Navigation, Safety, Boat Handling, Water Safety, Boat Rules, Sailing, Motoring, Anchoring, Mooring and Emergency Safety Management Systems. After your briefing, if you are still not 100% confident, we offer additional sail training, which many of our novices pre-book to maximise their holiday enjoyment and safety.
