Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
When is the best time to sail in the Whitsundays?
The best time for a bareboat charter in Australia depends on the type of experience you want, as the region provides excellent sailing conditions year-round.
Many travellers prefer boat charter Whitsundays-wide between May and November because of the comfortable temperatures, lower humidity and enjoyable conditions on the water. If seeing humpback whales is a priority, June to August offers the greatest opportunity during the annual migration.
For those who enjoy warmer weather, the September to March season also delivers excellent conditions for your sail Whitsundays charter trip. We’d suggest hiring one of our air-conditioned boats at this time of the year.
What should I pack for a Whitsundays sailing holiday?
Pack lightweight clothes, swimwear, reef-safe sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, comfortable shoes and essential medications for your sail Whitsundays charter. Bring your own groceries, snacks and drinks, or arrange delivery through Whitsunday Provisioning.
A comprehensive Maritime Briefing before departure will confirm the essentials required for your bareboat rental trip.
How long should we hire a boat for a first trip in the Whitsundays?
For a first sail Whitsundays charter, the ideal length depends on your planned itinerary, budget and how much of the Whitsundays you want to explore. Many first-time visitors find our 6-day skipper-yourself experience to be the best balance, providing enough time to discover the islands at a relaxed pace without feeling rushed.
If your goal is to reach more remote anchorages and to spend extra time enjoying secluded beaches and snorkelling locations, a 13 or 20-day charter gives you greater flexibility and more opportunities to explore.
